Artist Statement
I was born in raised in Griffin, Georgia and I began taking pottery and ceramics classes at a young age. Curiosity and inspiration took their hold on me immediately. Ever since then I have been an artist at heart, constantly striving to better my craft and seek inspiration.
My inspiration runs deeply in the natural world and how we as human beings interact with it. I remember growing up taking car trips with my family. I could sit for hours just looking out the window, watching the changing landscape and imagining all sorts of other creatures running alongside our car.
My artwork has, of course, evolved over time. I pride myself in the details as I find those are the most interesting parts for me to render and I enjoy spending long hours in the studio, getting into my creative headspace. Animals with horns and antlers and also plants have increasingly become a motif in my current work. To me they represent my own beautiful defenses. Defense mechanisms are shown off for the world to protect the individual but, also can be attractive to others. For these animals, they tend to become a part of their identity. The plants pose a different aesthetic for me and do not always have roots in real life. Many of these plants grow only in my imagination.
